Veiled Truths: Hair, Masks, and the Faces We Show the World
This series explores how external features—hairstyles, masks, and facial coverings—shape our identity and influence how we’re perceived. Hair has long been a form of self-expression, yet it often invites assumptions, especially for women with short hair who may be stereotyped based on outdated norms. Similarly, masks—once symbolic, now commonplace due to the COVID pandemic—add another layer to how we present ourselves to the world.
By blending these elements, I examine the tension between visibility and concealment, individuality and conformity. Each piece invites viewers to question what we reveal, what we hide, and how much of our identity is shaped by others’ expectations.
This work is a reflection on the evolving language of appearance—fluid, expressive, and deeply personal. * What do we choose to reveal or conceal?
* How do external features (like hair or masks) shape how others see us?
* Can a mask, like a hairstyle, become a form of self-expression—or self-protection? This journey is ongoing. I’ll keep shaping and reshaping the idea—one piece at a time.
